This challenging scope of work included the removal and replacement of existing 16” NPS valves and piping including coordination of the STATS fittings installation on 16NPS, 20NPS, and 24NPS pipe. In total over 60 welds with 70 meters of pipe were required to complete this scope. The custom fabrication to complete the tie-in and interconnects of four existing lines was significant.

Dunwald and Fleming completed the replacement of a private natural gas distribution system in Lethbridge Alberta owned by the Federal Government. The scope included replacement of mains and services within the private property to approximately 30 buildings and including approximately 3.7 km of directional drilling. Based on the time of year this scope was completed and the requirements within the buildings, it was critical to maintain the flow of natural gas as the replacement took place.

This scope included the installation of 3.7km of 12” NPS HDPE pipe around the City of Calgary.  Included in this scope was approximately 0.5km of directional drilling completed with our owned directional drills and highly skilled crew.  Dunwald and Fleming excavated the trench using our T755 Commander II chain trencher.  We were able to excavate approximately 100 meters of trench per hour requiring two fusions crews to attempt to keep up with the pace of excavation.  This scope included nitrogen purge of the line and all required tie-in and commissioning activities.

Dunwald and Fleming completed the replacement of approximately 130 services to trailers at a trailer court within the Lloydminster area. This replacement included approximately 3km of directional drilling to install the mains and services. All of our construction activities were required to take place in a manner that was safe for residents, minimized the impact on their daily lives, and allowed free and continuous access to their properties. During construction, special care was taken to ensure children playing could do so in a safe manner with zero risks of injury.

This scope included a 1.2km HDD of 20” NPS FBE pipe. Dunwald and Fleming completed the preparation of the pipe string and coordination of the pullback through Fish Creek Provincial Park in the City of Calgary. Significant logistical challenges were present on this scope including noise abatement for residents in the area, maintaining access to the park, and the minimization of the impacts to businesses in the area. All work was completed and the park was restored to a level that maintained the beauty and pristine conditions in the area.

Dunwald and Fleming completed the installation of 17km of 3” HDPE waterline by inserting the 3” within an existing 6” PVC line in Southern Alberta. We completed the installation in 600 to 900-meter increments utilizing our cable pulling equipment and customized pigging tools to minimize the impact on landowners. This scope included the installation of 19 Air and Wash-out Chambers. The fabrication of those chambers was completed in our custom fabrication facility in Calgary. Deviations in the line assignment for a portion of the scope required us to complete approximately 0.5km of this scope by HDD.

 Dunwald and Fleming have completed multiple integrity dig programs around Southern Alberta.  The level of care and caution working in and around existing hotlines is something that we do on a daily basis. 

Over the last decade, Dunwald and Fleming have completed many different abandonments and removals of oil and gas pipelines. The projects have ranged from 20km cross country projects to smaller urban pipeline removals. We are fortunate to have completed many unique and challenging scopes from pipe removal in river bottoms and banks, removals of piping that was strapped to abandoned bridge structures, and removal of the bridge structures themselves. Depending on the type of scope and pipe that is abandoned and removed, Dunwald and Fleming have used a wide range of equipment including small HDDs, a winch truck with 500,000lb pull force capability, and the utilization of hammers.

Dunwald and Fleming completed approximately 20 km of 16” NPS, 20” NPS, and 24” NPS pipe installation in and around the City of Calgary over the span of 2-3 years. During this time we completed xx HDD’s including major roadway, river, and utility crossings. This scope was not your typical mainline pipeline installation. Working in and around the City of Calgary presented numerous challenges with custom bends, coordination of utility crossings, and traffic and access accommodation planning.

Dunwald and Fleming have completed a vast range of different projects on the telecommunications side. The project scopes range from point repairs, manhole/vault repairs, house services, wire placement and pulling, private services, roading and roping, box placements, to various sizes and configurations of conduit installs. Dunwald and Fleming installed over 100,000m of conduit in 2020

Dunwald and Fleming own and operate a plow system utilized on numerous scopes in Southern Alberta.  This work includes the installation of natural gas distribution lines and telecommunication conduits ranging in size from 2” to 4”.  We are capable of installing upwards of 5-8km of conduit or pipe per day depending on the right conditions.

Dunwald and Fleming completed the installation of 1.0 km of hardened duct structure on the West side of Calgary. This scope included the installation of 6 4” telecommunication ducts at a depth of up to 5 meters in a hardened duct structure. Challenges on this scope included the significant depths, rock excavating, elevation changes, road crossings in 16” casing pipe and traffic and access accommodation plans to keep the City moving.

Dunwald and Fleming Started in the early 2000s completing the pipeworks for various other contractors in the waterline construction business. The concept of the waterline is very similar to the root start of what Dunwald and Fleming was formed on. Dunwald and Fleming has completed many aspects and scopes ranging from 24” steel fbe internal coated waterlines, 24” HDPE pipe installs to complete turnkey packages of recent 17km HDPE install

Dunwald and Fleming have completed many scopes. The different scopes ranged from working with many environmental companies with project scopes ranging from class 1 river bank restorations, native grass construction activities, straw mating, and coconut mating for erosion control areas. As Dunwald and Fleming progressed over the years through this sector we have acquired many different pieces of equipment over the years and knowledge.
